Amieva
The Amieva region is located in the Picos de Europa western massif (Asturias); its population arround 1000 hab. and 30% of the 114 square km is National park. In this space Amieva combines traditional rural activites, like forestry, cattle raising and agriculture, which conform the main activity in the region, with others like hunting, fishing, mountaineering, and a climbing school. All this in consonance with very profesional and careful servicies in the rural lodgings for the visitor´s confort. River Sella in its highest part runs through Amieva from South to North, dividing its territory in two parts: on the right stand the Sierra de Amieva falling on the Dobra river, which is the eastern administrative frontier along with the picos de Cornion.
The leftside part of the river Sella valley is delimited by the hill ranges of Carangues and Carnedes. The highest heights are located in the Picos de Cornion, which in Amieva are 1.200 metres high, the Porra de Cabronero (1.998 mts) and the Pico Pienzu (1.552 mts) in the hill range of Carangues. The valleys are only wide where the rivers find slaty grounds, making the hillsides soften. In these spaces is where almost all of the population of this region of Asturias lives. Vegetation is represented by forests of deciduous trees; oaks, ash trees, limes, maples, etc..that path the way to beech and birch forests up north. During the summer months we enjoy hot temperatures, but not suffocating, which is always grateful. This is one reason that makes this place a perfect one to be trully in contact with nature and to enjoy a deserved rest after the day.
