Río Sella desde el puente de Precendi
The first National Park in Spain, called Montaña de Covadonga in 1918 thanks to Don Pedro Pidal, and Picos de Europa National Park, from 1995, is shaped by three young and calcareous mountains known as Cornion, Urrieles and Andara (Western, central and eastern respectively) that are almost 65 thousand hectares square...
Outside our frontiers it is considered as a Special Protection Area for birds, also offering a wide range of animals worth mentioning such as ibexes, roe deers, martens, stoats, wild boars, wolves, brown bears, capercaillies, foxes, squirrels, eagles, owls...

Each one of the massives presents shared characteristics whith the other ones and exclusive of itself, from the rough and steep Central Massif to the soft altitudes and prairies of the Eastern one, not forgeting the Cornion, the most extensive and varied of the three. It presents beech, oak and heather forests, green pastures and serious altitudes as Peña Santa de Castila, Torre de Santa Maria, Requexon...It is bordered by three rivers: Sella, Dobra, and Cares. In this Cornion Massif Amieva occupies an important area of The Picos de Europa National Park, presenting the most southern entrance to it: the Angon Valley
